A hair collection is more than a photoshoot — it's a statement of where the craft is going. In this guide we go behind the scenes of our collection shoots (Volumes 2.0 and 3.0) to break down the creative process, the planning, and the execution that turns a concept into a finished collection.
What Is a Hair Collection?
A collection is a curated series of looks that tell a single creative story. Unlike a single editorial, a collection has a through-line — a mood, a technique, a palette — that connects every image. It's the hair equivalent of a fashion season.
The Creative Process
1. Concept & Direction
Every collection starts with a concept — a feeling, a reference, a direction. From there we build a mood board: colours, textures, silhouettes, and references that define the world the collection lives in. The concept shapes everything that follows.
2. The Team
A collection shoot is a collaboration. Hair, photography, styling, makeup, and modelling all need to pull in the same direction. We brief each team member against the mood board so everyone is working toward the same story.
3. Planning the Looks
Each look in the collection is designed to stand on its own and contribute to the whole. We plan the techniques, the colours, and the styling for every look, balancing variety with cohesion.
4. The Shoot Day
Shoot day is fast and structured. Looks are timed, lighting is pre-planned, and the creative director holds the through-line. The best images come from giving the model and the camera room to find the moment — within a disciplined framework.
5. Selection & Edit
The final collection is built in the edit. Not every strong image makes it — the selection is about the story, not the individual shot. We choose images that move the narrative forward and retire the rest.
